On your journey to success, there are three types of people you'll meet.
- People that love you.
- People that hate you.
- People that are neutral about you.
That said, the way a person feels about you, and perceives you, can change. At various points in time, a person can go from hating you, to loving you, to being neutral.
The lesson here is that the way people perceive you has nothing to do with the true you - your soul. The way people perceive you has to do with the way they are perceiving you . (Seems simple enough, aye?)
For example, let's say you post a positive quote on Facebook. Every single person will read the same exact words, yet they will perceive them differently.
Continuing with this example, let's say you get three comments:
- The first comment says, "I disagree with this, but thanks for sharing."
- The second, "Wow, this is exactly what I needed."
- Third, "Can you stop with these quotes? They are annoying, just like you."
As you can see, each person had a unique perception and thus a unique response. All of them mean nothing about you or the quote.
How To Deal With The 3 Types: Take Nothing Personally
The number one rule here is to take nothing personally. Whether someone praises the shit out of you, or tries to rip your dreams apart, what they have to say is just words.
Now, let's say you have an emotional reaction, particularly when someone throws hate at you. My best piece of advice is to not react. If you feel anger, frustration, fear, or something like that, acknowledge that that's something YOU are dealing with. It actually has nothing to do with the person hating on you.
Just as people will perceive your life uniquely, the way you perceive others words is unique to you as well. What makes you triggered could make someone else inspired.
This "take nothing personally" approach will allow you to detach your emotions from the way people respond to your life and what you're up to.
Besides, people don't typically know what's behind you and your actions. You're of great depth, we all are. People don't know that your inspiring quote was born out of your will to get out of depression, or your love for your mother.
People don't realize that you spent 8 years, working deeply on your soul, which allowed you to write a 50 page ebook that you sell for a measly 99 fucking cents. Of which you only make 35 cents per sale. Yet, people will find a way to crucify you and put you down. Just as people will find a way to over-hype your success and make you feel like you're extraordinary.
Your lovers, haters, and neutral people have no idea what's behind your actions and your message, but you do. You are the one in charge of your life, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. The way people react is just that: the way they react.
There is no amount of hate others can throw at you that means anything about who you are and what you're worth. Same goes for all the love. For you'll get equal amounts of love, hate, and neutrality.
Where you stand emotionally, must be grounded somewhere deeper than the way people think about you. It must lie deep in your own opinion of yourself. In the deep knowing that you are enough and that you are worth everything - for you and nothing/nobody else.
You are the shit! It's just the way life is.
